Are you a member of the “Let me fix you” Club?

I am, or rather, I’m a member of the recovering fixer club. Learning to do my own inner work and recognize that I can’t change others is an ongoing practice, one that of course I don’t do perfectly (Then it wouldn’t be a practice).

It’s easy to fall into the trap of thinking that it’s our job to get other people to improve.

Especially if you’re a leader- which can mean a leader of the team at work or a leader of your family as a parent.

It’s not your job because you can’t get anyone to do the inner work they need to do to improve.

It is your job to:

Do your own inner work so you lead by example.

Share how you’re practicing.

Support and encourage others.

But you can’t make anyone do the inner work they need to do to unleash their full awesome capacity to thrive.

This isn’t an easy thing to accept. I’ve definitely wasted so much energy getting stuck in frustration of “why can’t this person see that they need to change x, y, z to be at their best!

But this is part of both practicing humility- Respecting where the other people are on their journey-and preserving your energy by not wasting it in frustration
